Viaggiatori esperti o novellini alle prime armi, quello che distingue un viaggiatore da un semplice turista è lo spirito con cui sale in sella e affronta la strada che ha di fronte. Ci sono percorsi che non si misurano solo in chilometri, ma in quanto riescono ad alleggerire il peso dell'anima. La storia di Patricia ci porta a scoprire la storia di una motociclista che ha trovato in sella alla sua moto la forma più pura di libertà. Patricia è portoghese e ha la patente da poco tempo ma ha già affrontato un "battesimo del fuoco" non indifferente: una spedizione tra le vette dei Picos de Europa, sfidando grandine, neve e venti sferzanti.

Ecco a voi la storia di Patricia / Riding Thru Life:

- Parlaci un po' di te e del tuo rapporto con il mondo delle moto

Patricia: A volte, la vita ci mette su percorsi dove il peso delle preoccupazioni diventa troppo difficile da sopportare. È stato precisamente in quella ricerca di una via di fuga che la moto è apparsa come uno strumento di liberazione. Non si trattava solo di scegliere un mezzo di trasporto, ma di trovare un rifugio in movimento. Quando metti il casco, il rumore del mondo esterno è sostituito dal suono del motore, e le preoccupazioni che un tempo sembravano gigantesche svaniscono nello specchietto retrovisore. Sulla strada, la concentrazione è totale: l'equilibrio, la curva, la strada davanti. Non c'è spazio per il passato o per l'ansia riguardo al futuro; c'è solo il momento presente. Questa “terapia su due ruote” mi ha permesso di sostituire il peso delle preoccupazioni con la leggerezza del vento in faccia, dimostrando che a volte il modo migliore per organizzare la mente è lasciare che l'aria fresca la schiarisca.

- Descrivi il tuo giro in moto preferito. Che tipo di scenario trovi più avvincente?
Patricia: Il mio viaggio più importante finora mi ha portato ai Picos de Europa, un'esperienza che definisco come il mio vero battesimo nel motociclismo. Sebbene io stia ancora costruendo il mio “bagaglio” di viaggio, i giorni che ho passato in quelle montagne sono valsi anni su strada. Ho affrontato una vera prova di resistenza: pioggia persistente, grandine, neve e venti che hanno sfidato il mio equilibrio non solo emotivo. Ci sono stati momenti in cui le condizioni erano critiche e le mie abilità sono state spinte al limite. Tuttavia, questo viaggio mi ha insegnato che nel motociclismo l'equipaggiamento è vitale, ma è lo stato psicologico che ci tiene in carreggiata. Devo molto del successo di questa avventura al mio fidanzato. La sua calma e la fiducia che mi ha dato durante i momenti più critici sono stati il mio porto sicuro. Solo l'ultimo giorno il sole ha deciso di apparire, come se premiasse il nostro impegno. Oggi, mi guardo indietro con orgoglio, sapendo che se ho superato i Picos in quelle condizioni, sono pronta per i prossimi capitoli che la strada ha in serbo per me.

- Raccontaci la tua strada o il tuo itinerario preferito in moto.
Patricia: Sebbene la mia esperienza di viaggio sia ancora solo all'inizio, c'è un consiglio che do con completa convinzione: non hai bisogno di andare lontano per trovare il paradiso. Il Portogallo è un paese assolutamente bellissimo e un vero santuario per coloro che guidano su due ruote. Abbiamo strade mozzafiato che si snodano tra montagne e valli, così come una costa atlantica unica. Dalla leggendaria Strada Nazionale 2 alle curve della Serra da Estrela o alle strade del Douro, la diversità dei paesaggi è incredibile. Per i principianti come me, o per i veterani che cercano il puro piacere di guidare, il Portogallo è la destinazione perfetta. Lo garantisco: chiunque venga a esplorare il nostro paese in motocicletta non se ne pentirà. È un'esperienza che riempie l'anima!

- Che moto hai nel tuo garage? Utilizzi la moto per itinerari brevi o anche per viaggiare?
Patricia: Nel mio garage oggi c'è una BMW R1250 GS 40 Years Edition — la mia “ape” — ma la mia esperienza da viaggiatrice non sarebbe la stessa senza chi l'ha preceduta, una BMW G 310 GS, una moto fantastica che è stata veramente la mia più grande insegnante. È con lei che ho imparato quasi tutto quello che so sulla guida e sulla fiducia in me stessa; confesso che a volte mi manca ancora la sua agilità. Il passaggio alla 1250 GS è stato un passo strategico: l'obiettivo è rendere i lunghi viaggi più facili e guadagnare il comfort necessario per divorare chilometri. Sebbene la vita non abbia sempre reso facile soddisfare questo desiderio ultimamente, il piano per quest'anno è chiaro. Voglio esplorare nuovi orizzonti e finalmente fare i viaggi più lunghi che stavo sognando. Spero che questo sia l'anno in cui la strada e la vita si allineino così che la mia GS e io possiamo scrivere nuovi capitoli insieme!

- Il luogo che vorresti visitare o il viaggio che vorresti fare in sella ad una moto?
Patricia: Il mio viaggio in moto dei sogni è verso Capo Nord. Più che una destinazione, rappresenta una vera sfida personale e un'esperienza di superamento di se stessi. Lungo il cammino, ci sono posti che rendono il viaggio ancora più speciale, come i fiordi norvegesi, con i loro paesaggi mozzafiato, la leggendaria Atlantic Road, dove la strada sembra fondersi con il mare, e la Lapponia, con la sua natura selvaggia e la sensazione di fine del mondo. Sono chilometri di strada, libertà assoluta e scoperta costante. Raggiungere Capo Nord sarebbe indimenticabile, ma il vero valore del viaggio risiede in tutto ciò che viene vissuto lungo il percorso.

- Mettere il casco è un rituale per ogni motociclista. Cosa ti passa per la mente quando lo indossi?
Patricia: Quando metto il mio casco, è come se entrassi in un portale. In quel momento, tutte le preoccupazioni vengono lasciate alle spalle. Il mondo rallenta e ciò che conta è solo la strada, il focus e la concentrazione. I paesaggi, il contatto con la natura e la condivisione con altri motociclisti creano una connessione speciale che è difficile da spiegare a chiunque non l'abbia mai vissuta. È uno stato di presenza totale, dove la mente riposa e il cuore accelera. Per me, guidare una moto non è solo una passione, è una terapia.

- Il modello o la tipologia di moto che preferisci?
Patricia: La mia moto preferita è, senza dubbio, la mia. È quella con cui ho creato un legame, storie e ricordi su strada. Tuttavia, confesso che la Ducati DesertX mi fa sempre un po' sognare — ha un carattere avventuroso che è difficile da ignorare. Se potessi avere una seconda moto, sarebbe la BMW R12 G/S, principalmente per il suo look “heritage”, che combina tradizione, personalità e uno stile senza tempo. Alla fine, ogni motocicletta ha la sua anima, ma il legame con la nostra è sempre unico.

- La moto più bella e quella più strana che tu abbia mai guidato, o che vorresti guidare?

Patricia: Ho preso la patente della moto solo nel 2024. Prima di allora, non avevo mai guidato una moto, quindi non ho molte storie da condividere in questo caso… per ora. Fino ad oggi, ho posseduto solo due moto, il che significa che ogni esperienza è stata vissuta molto intensamente e consapevolmente. Vedo questo viaggio come l'inizio di un'avventura, piena di sfide, e con un enorme desiderio di accumulare chilometri. Le mie storie in sella ad una moto sono ancora in fase di scrittura.

Some journeys aren’t measured just in miles, but in how much they manage to lighten our soul. Patricia is a Portuguese rider who found her purest form of freedom behind the handlebars of a motorbike. Despite only having her license in 2024, she has already faced a "baptism of fire" that many veterans might avoid: an expedition through the peaks of the Picos de Europa.

- Introduce yourself and share the story of your journey into the world of motorcycles. What sparked your interest?
Patricia: Sometimes, life puts us on paths where the weight of worries becomes too heavy to carry on foot. It was precisely in that search for an escape that the motorcycle appeared as a tool for liberation.It wasn’t just about choosing a means of transport, but about finding a refuge in motion. When you put on the helmet, the noise of the outside world is replaced by the sound of the engine, and the worries that once felt gigantic fade away in the rearview mirror. On the road, focus is total: balance, the curve, the road ahead. There’s no room for the past or for anxiety about the future; there is only the present moment. This “therapy on two wheels” allowed me to trade the weight of thought for the lightness of the breeze, proving that sometimes the best way to organize the mind is to let the wind clear it.

- Describe your favourite motorcycle ride. What type of scenery do you find most exciting?

Patricia: My greatest journey so far took me to the Picos de Europa, an experience I define as my true baptism into motorcycling. Although I am still building my travel “baggage,” the days I spent in those mountains were worth years on the road.

I faced a real test of endurance: persistent rain, hail, snow, and winds that challenged my balance. There were moments when the conditions were frightening and my skills were pushed to the limit. However, this trip taught me that in motorcycling, equipment is vital, but it is the psychological state that keeps us on track.

I owe much of the success of this adventure to my boyfriend. His calm and the confidence he gave me during the most critical moments were my safe harbor. Only on the last day did the sun decide to appear, as if rewarding our persistence. Today, I look back with pride, knowing that if I overcame the Picos under those conditions, I am ready for the next chapters the road has in store for me.

- Share your best recommendation for a must-visit road or destination for motorcycle enthusiasts. Why is this place so special for you?
Patricia: Although my travel experience is still just beginning, there is one piece of advice I give with complete conviction: you don’t need to go far to find paradise. Portugal is an absolutely beautiful country and a true sanctuary for those who ride on two wheels.
We have breathtaking roads that wind through mountains and valleys, as well as a unique Atlantic coastline. From the legendary National Road 2 to the curves of Serra da Estrela or the roads of the Douro, the diversity of landscapes is unbelievable. For beginners like me, or for veterans seeking the pure pleasure of riding, Portugal is the perfect destination. I guarantee it: anyone who comes to explore our country by motorcycle will not regret it. It’s an experience that fills the soul!

- Take us into your garage. What motorcycle is parked there, and how do you use it? Is it for short rides or your trusted companion for epic journeys?
Patricia: In my garage today lives a BMW R1250 GS 40 Years Edition — my “bee” — but my journey wouldn’t be the same without its predecessor. I made the transition from a BMW G 310 GS, a fantastic motorcycle that was truly my greatest teacher. It was with her that I learned almost everything I know about balance and confidence on the road; I confess that sometimes I still miss her agility.
The move to the 1250 GS was a strategic step: the goal is to make long journeys easier and gain the comfort needed to devour kilometers. Although life hasn’t always made it easy to fulfill this desire lately, the plan for this year is clear. I want to take this anniversary edition to explore new horizons and finally make the longer trips I’ve been dreaming about. I hope this is the year when the road and life align so that my GS and I can write new chapters together!

- Dream destinations await. If you could hop on your motorcycle and explore any place in the world, where would you go next?
Patricia: My dream motorcycle trip is to the North Cape. More than a destination, it represents a true personal challenge and an experience of self-overcoming. Along the way, there are places that make the journey even more special, such as the Norwegian fjords, with their breathtaking landscapes, the legendary Atlantic Road, where the road seems to merge with the sea, and Lapland, with its wild nature and end-of-the-world feeling. These are kilometers of road, absolute freedom, and constant discovery. Reaching the North Cape would be unforgettable, but the true value of the journey lies in everything experienced along the way.

- Putting on the helmet is a ritual for every rider. What goes through your mind when you gear up, start your bike, and hit the road?
Patricia: When I put on my helmet, it’s as if I enter a portal. In that moment, all worries are left behind. The world slows down and what matters is only the road, focus, and concentration. The landscapes, the contact with nature, and the sharing with other motorcyclists create a special connection that’s hard to explain to anyone who has never lived it. It’s a state of total presence, where the mind rests and the heart accelerates. For me, riding a motorcycle isn’t just a passion — it’s therapy.

- Do you have a preferred motorcycle model or type?
Patricia: My favorite motorcycle is, without a doubt, my own. It’s the one with which I’ve created a bond, stories, and memories on the road. Still, I confess that the Ducati DesertX always makes me look twice — it has an adventurous character that’s hard to ignore. If I could have a second motorcycle, it would be the BMW R12 G/S, mainly for its heritage look, which combines tradition, personality, and a timeless style. In the end, every motorcycle has its own soul, but the bond with ours is always unique.

- Share the story of the coolest and most unconventional motorcycle you've ever had the pleasure of riding.
Patricia: I only got my motorcycle license in 2024. Before that, I had never ridden a motorcycle, so I don’t have many stories to share in this chapter… yet. To this day, I’ve also only owned two motorcycles, which means each experience has been lived very intensely and consciously. I see this journey as the beginning of a recent adventure, filled with constant learning, enthusiasm, and a huge desire to rack up kilometers. The stories are still being written.
